Hi my friends! Well, here’s my first sewing project on my new Varmax mini sewing machine! If you missed reading my blog post on my new machine, catch it here.
My BFF and I have started sewing together {virtually} and for our first project, we decided on pin cushions. We both need them for our pins and for me also I need one for my embroidery needles. We both chose whatever fabric we had on hand. For me, I needed to buy some so I hopped over to Dollar Tree and picked up some really pretty fabrics.
For my pin cushion, I went with my favorite color, pink and the fabric has polka dots and a bit of an ombre effect which I really like. She finished hers in about an hour cause of course she’s an advanced sewer, I’m a newbie! LOL!
Problems but Perseverance Pays Off
It took me about a couple of hours as I’m still getting used to my machine, it did an excellent job let me tell you! I had no problems with it, my issue was the part of the cushion that you have to close after stuffing it. I stuffed mine with poly-fill, she used old fabric scraps. She did a slip stitch to close her cushion while I tried the blind stitch and it did not go well.
However, I did get it done and I even added a pink button from my stash in the center to make it a bit more cuter. I think I did okay for my first sewing project! Well… here she is in all her glory!

The pattern is very simple, here’s a very short YT tutorial video that we followed to make our pin cushions.
It inspires me to keep going and really try to enjoy the process. This just extends my hobby and gives me so much to look forward to doing when I retire this year!
I can now use it for my embroidery needles and pins! I want to make another one but I want to make a circular one, will let you know how I do on that! Thanks for reading!
